My work in digital, mixed media, and installation suggests connections – connections between the large and small, the abstract and representational, between us and the things that surround us. I am intrigued with the inherent fragility and beauty of natural forms. I work with the natural materials themselves in sculptural forms and installation works. My trained as a photographer has translated into digital media to record my ephemeral collections. The use of digital tools to preserve or archive these artifacts has interesting connotations. The ever-changing technologies speak to the ephemeral qualities of the media itself. I see this as a critical metaphor for the delicacy of the objects I am working with, the fragility of life itself. We use photographs, now in digital incarnations, to remember, document, and memorialize our existence. I see my work as somewhat similar (and admittedly) futile attempts to preserve the life of these discarded materials. There is an inherent preciousness in the collecting, interpretation and representation of these objects.
