The Members' Lab Space was created as an exhibition space for Rochester Contemporary Art Center members. It offers an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work, and affords an opportunity to take advantage of the Art Center's vital downtown location.
The Lab Space is a non-curated exhibition space, which is dedicated to providing a place for artists to show their work and share their ideas. Finished works and works-in-progress are acceptable, particularly those of an experimental nature. The Lab Space is a place where you can interact with other artists and have your work open to public viewing.
Artists are solely responsible for their exhibition: i.e. installation of work, lighting, sweeping and mopping floor, gallery reception (set-up, food, beverages, paper goods, clean-up), taking down work, and returning the gallery to it's original condition. The Art Center will send out a press release, and provide guidance in all areas of exhibition installation, as well as provide tools for installation.
RoCo receives a 25% commission from the sale of work in the Lab Space. Artists that participate in the Lab Space are required to help with keeping the gallery open during normal gallery hours to help alleviate the staff.
The Lab Space is a 11' x 11' room and exhibitions are scheduled on a "first-come first served" basis. You must be a current member to sign up. Email or call RoCo to indicate your interest and your name will be put on the list. At that time you will be given an approximate time frame in which to plan your show. You will be given exact dates as well as the contract and all pertinent information as your turn approaches.
