Current Artists
Yuliia Poraiko
During the residency, the artist will create a new series of abstract paintings that explore the emotional landscapes of femininity, motherhood, and inner strength—using fluid art techniques, organic forms, and layered color to give voice to women’s lived experiences and inner worlds.
Noah Winslow
Noah will use the residency to create drawings, poems, and sculptural works that transform the often-invisible experience of living with Ménière’s disease into a richly imagined junkyard world—evoking fragility, instability, and resilience through rusted textures, discarded objects, and layered visual storytelling. The project will build upon the artist's past work related to Ridge Road, the dubious Rochester commercial thoroughfare.
About the Artists
Yuliia Poraiko (Palij) is a Ukrainian artist who recently moved to the United States and is currently living and working in Rochester. In her work, she combines emotional abstraction with delicate symbolism. Her visual language is flexible and intuitive. Yuliia explores femininity, the female nature, its energy, and psychological depth. She holds degrees in graphic design, law, and fine arts. Her works have been exhibited in the United States, the Netherlands, and Ukraine — including at Gallery Azur (New York), Florence Contemporary Gallery, the Europe Art Fair (Amsterdam), as well as in Lviv, Odesa, and Ivano-Frankivsk. In 2019, she began teaching through artist-led workshops, and in 2021, she founded a large art studio in her hometown of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. The studio continues to operate independently as a creative space and educational platform.@yuliia_palij
Noah Winslow (he/him) is an artist working primarily with books containing images and poetry. He received an MST K-12 Art Education degree in 2023 and a BFA in Fine Art Photography in 2020, both from Rochester Institute of technology. He is an Art Teacher at Bishop Kearney High School. @noah_winslow
About COMP Studios
COMP Studios provides artists with inexpensive and free, temporary space to advance their practice and engage the public. This initiative expands RoCo's work to support artists, advances the ecosystem for contemporary art in Downtown Rochester; and builds upon grassroots efforts like First Friday, Rochester’s Citywide Gallery Night, and 2019's Current Seen. In addition to providing work space, this initiative will boost an artist's access to audiences and expose the public to an artist’s latest artwork. COMP Studios is Creative Opportunities Made Public. In 2024 COMP was located offsite at a nearby office building and supported by Chashama and The New York State Council for the Arts. In 2025 we moved this program back to the 2nd Floor of RoCo's main facility at 137 East Avenue.
