About the Artist
Steve Smock is a contemporary painter and graphic designer. Since 1995, Smock has been creating expressive images for corporate clients and his own practice.
As a painter, Smock works on canvas and OSB board with a vibrant earth-tone palette. While he portrays a wide variety of subjects, his portraits of people are particularly expressive. According to the artists, the portraits are of “People I know. People I meet. People I wish I could meet.” The subject features are emphasized and abstracted to create emotion and personality.
Smock’s work as a graphic designer includes book covers for BOA Editions, Ltd., event posters for Honest Folk Presents, as well as work for Rochester Regional Health as their lead graphic designer.
During “Poetry Is Jazz!”, a poetry reading event organized by BOA Editions at RoCo, Smock set up his easel in the front window to treat visitors and passers-by to a live painting session.

RoCo’s Davis-Havens Sales Gallery offers artworks of all styles at a range of prices, all to benefit Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Hundreds of artworks, which have been donated by collectors (and some artists), are rotated on view regularly. Artworks have been given expressly for this ongoing fundraiser so prices are often significantly discounted. All proceeds from the sale of these artworks support the long term future of RoCo.
Our Future Fund Featured Find is a new initiative highlighting a different artwork and artist each month.
