(I'm)Migration: Community Artists Share Their Experience - Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo)

Opening Reception: October 2, 6-9pm
Artwork Pick-up: November 15-16, 12-5pm

(I’m)Migration: Community Artists Share Their Experience brings together more than 60 artworks by immigrants and immigrant collaborators living and working in the Rochester region. This non-curated display has been created through an open call for submissions and includes every entry that was received by the deadline. Encompassing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, geographies, materials, and artistic practices, the exhibition reflects the nuances and complexities of immigration as personal experience. These works consider stories of arrival, belonging, separation, resilience, and transformation. While some artists respond to politics, detention, racism, and systems of exclusion, others draw attention to support systems, cultural practices, and languages that help establish and sustain a sense of home and belonging. Presented together, the artworks holds space for the full spectrum of immigration experiences, and emphasize the importance of many voices speaking alongside one another, whether identified by name or presented anonymously.

This group exhibition is presented alongside Sanctuary: Borders & Belonging in 2026
