Opening Reception: August 28
First Friday: September 4
Still, Moving: A Firefly Meditation is an immersive light installation inspired by summer evenings spent observing fireflies. Through illuminated painted-glass sculptures and field recordings, the exhibition transforms the space into a contemplative environment that invites visitors to slow down and reconnect with themselves and the natural world. The work explores stillness not as stagnation, but as a space for reflection, healing, and renewal – suggesting that moving forward sometimes begins by simply being present.
About the Artist
Katharine Torgersen is a Corning-based interdisciplinary artist working with reverse glass painting and long-exposure photography. Through the manipulation of light and time, she explores themes of memory, grief, growth, and wonder. Torgersen's practice is shaped by a deep curiosity about the human experience. Having lived on four continents and traveled extensively, she is interested in the threads of shared humanity that connect us across cultures. Drawing on these experiences, she creates contemplative spaces that invite reflection, presence, and connection. Torgersen has received individual artist grants from both the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the development of immersive light installations, and is a studio artist at RoCo Upstairs. @k.torg.art
