Earth Tones Woman: A Modern Gypsy’s Photo Journal

February 6, 2009 - March 15, 2009

Earth Tones Women is a mosaic of photographs and oil pastels of indigenous tribal women from the Jamie Columbus' travels to 30 faraway lands. They are displayed in salon style in a cozy room, which the artist transforms from a traditional gallery setting.

To acknowledge our community as a global village and to create unity with women across borders. To celebrate the beauty and contributions of women around the world. To increase understanding of issues of concern to women. To imagine and dream of our shared future.

-Jamie Colombus

Columbus founded Rochester's International Women’s Day at her home, along with 18 other women from all walks of life. From 12 countries and organizations, such as the Susan B. Anthony House, the University of Rochester International Friendship Council, and the Rochester Institute of Technology's English Language Center, these women joined together to form the RIWD Planning Committee.
