Tied by Water

July 28, 2015 - July 29, 2015

Tied by Water is an ongoing, multidisciplinary exploration of the Great Lakes by performance artist and Joyce Foundation Fellow Moheb Soliman (Minneapolis, MN). Soliman is tracing the entire Great Lakes coastline by land for four months and RoCo will host him in Rochester.

Soliman's performance overlays images, language, and gesture and is presented in the context of a low-fi installation involving a tent, overhead projector, and artifacts from his travels. The presentation addresses his on-going project circling the lakes, and his ideas for exploring the place of nature and the sublime in modernity and identity, the differing narratives of belonging in the region. The artist is also interested in the extent to which the wild, populous Great Lakes borderland has a coherent culture rooted in geography, history, and economy. Follow Soliman's travels here.
