Anne Havens, Rochester NY, works idiosyncratically, seeking metaphor where it emerges and frequently moving back and forth between 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional formats.

Upstate Invitational - One of western New York’s most prestigious exhibitions, this annual series is intended to give an overview of the exceptional talent found in the Upstate New York region. It looks at artists in a variety of media and spans a range of artists from established to emerging talents. Artists are chosen from submitted proposals and observations as well as recommendations made by Rochester’s arts community.

Dusty Herbig, Syracuse, NY, examines humanity through counting and generically cataloging the worlds population and its disputes. This requires the implementation of the most basic tenet of printmaking: the multiple.

Mahine Rattonsey, Rochester, NY, a glass artist, transforms emotional reflections into layers of visual narratives that the viewer can unveil. The transparency of glass aids in this and allows for multiple layers to be viewed at the same time.

Carrie Will, Syracuse, NY, photographer, deals with the notion of loss. The death of her mother and the ensuing shifts in the familial balance lead her to an exploration of the visual language of comfort.
Jason Smith, Buffalo NY, balances muted harmonies and decorative patterns in his paintings with abrupt disorienting transitions that refer tothevisual logic of digital media. His sculptural works combines images of the natural world with machines, games, or commodities. These awkward formal transitions suggest instability and change, ironically using simple, static materials to contemplate impermanence.
